The architecture of this bookshop, especially the typical interior. But too many people, even at lunchtime...

Guess I must have missed the part about losing the app before going. Slight delay at the door. Extremely crowded but interesting and beautiful inside
The athmosphere is unforgetable I agree for the statement : The beautiful book store in the world😀 The books currated are the best Queue is in order, well arranged, although is very crowded I really want to return soon, hopefully
In spite of the large crowd, we got in nearly in the exact time. Was worthy to buy tickets online, made it all easy. Just to queue in the specified time and be patience. The place is a bit small for so many people but security people ard helping to move one group in one way and let other ones follow. Beautiful library, very unique, absolutely worth to visit 🥰👍👍👍👍
I booked my tickets that morning for a 1:15pm visit. Very well organized with 2 alternating queues and color coding. A lot of people in the bookshop, it's very very difficult to appreciate the decor, the photos are always with lots of other tourists... It's not nice to charge €10 to enter a shop... (children free)

I loved the experience of such a beautiful bookshop in the centre of Porto, the interior design was stunning.
Awesome place to visit. Be there early as the queue lines, even for ticket holders, are very long.
The entire experience was fantastic. Helpful friendly staff.
It was a sardine can of people. It was a beautiful buidling and interior but it was unpleasntly crowded. I would not recommend it to anyone in the future and it was not worth paying to get into.
The place is really worth seeing. There are way too many people though. Nevertheless rhe organization is very good end the entry/exit process rums smoothly.
Catarina is Wonderful!!! She was a great help in selecting a very special book for our daughter-in-law. Thank you Catarina.
The Livraria is beautiful, however, it's really busy and too many people at the same time are allowed in, which makes the experience much less enjoyable. However, I like that the price of the ticket counts towards a book! Overall I'd recommend
The building's exterior and interior are awesome and can only hint at this institution's remarkable past. Today, it seems to be a Disney-like interpretation of a quirky bookstore and the fee-based entry ritual is only a part of its odd no-longer-new personality. I sense that the uniformly-bound texts (admittedly in multiple languages so all tourists can enjoy them) are not the necessarily the best editions available, but they are certainly beautiful to look at. It doesn't have the character of an old, fascinating bookstore, as one might hope for, but rather offers a library fantasy for those who want to pay 10, 15, or 25 Euros to wander around for 30 minutes. One would get one's entry fee reimbursed when buying one of their books, but for true book lovers, there is not really a usefully-curated collection aimed at literature lovers or bibliophiles. It is intended for the general public, though, and is appealing especially to fans of the Harry Potter series, which is a loverly and popular way for them to guide their business model. It was a fun visit and offered countless photogenic vistas, in spite of the large timed crowds that flow through every 15 minutes. Definitely worth seeing for its grace and beauty, but not if the goal is literary or bibliophilic inspiration.
It was realy easy to order the tickets online!! We loved the bookstore so much. It was really pretty😍😍
We booked tickets for the Livraria Lello Library. The website was very easy to use and we recieved our tickets and confirmation immediately after booking.
Definitely worth the money. The library was wonderful and the books well presented, lots of people but well managed and the wait time looks longer than it was, moved quickly inside.
Staff were very helpful and pleasant. There was an excellent selection of books and the shop itself is beautiful. It was very crowded at 6pm in the evening
Such an extraordinarily beautiful building. Truly a highlight despite the crowds. Wish they'd let fewer people in but it is understandable that everyone wants to visit this magical little place.
queue was very long, totally overcrowded, queue for booksales, staff not very efficient. charged for a bag 1.50 euro which was too much after paying 10 euro for entry.
The ticketing with Headout was uncomplicated and simple ! Livrario Lello was marvellous but very growded. We just had a short look around. It would be important to communicat that there is no possibility to enter without booking a ticket!! The day before we tried to get a time to enter by standing in the queue. It was wasted time 🤷♀️
I liked visiting the bookstore but there were way too many people to enjoy it fully. And I would have liked more books in english.
The bookstore was beautiful, but you really couldn't see it. They let in way too many people at once. You couldn't even look at the box because it was so crowded. It was very claustrophobic in there and the pictures that you tried to take of the building itself. It was just too crowded.
I really enjoyed visiting this bookshop, which is truly magnificent. On the other hand, I was disappointed by the crowds, even at 9am... I would have much preferred to pay a little more to be able to enjoy it more quietly, without being jostled by the crowd of tourists.

Loved seeing the people and the excitement of the people there from all around the world. I liked learning about Portuguese authors and I found a great book as a gift. Book to go early in the day.
Efficient queue management and friendly staff. Stunning shop!
The gold voucher was well worth it. You get to skip the line and you get a book from their collection. The interior is very beautiful. The only downside is that it's crowded, so it's only worth a short visit in my opinion.
The gold ticket is good value- the queues otherwise are round the block!!! It is an extremely popular place to visit so be prepared for limited photo opportunities-the book selection is really good with the "free" books grouped together in your chosen language. The only downside is that it is so very crowded - less popular times would be my choice!!
Amazing architecture. You really need to be familiar with Harry Potter though. Otherwise it is a ticket to a nice bookstore.
It was great to see the book shop and I bought some beautiful books, however the crowds were ridiculous. People taking too much ime to pose for photos etc completely blocked walkways and stairs. I'm not sure what the solution is but crowd control needs addressing.
The library is quite lovely. It was crowded but staff moved people around efficiently and were very nice and helpful. The book selection was wonderful.
The bookstore is absolutely amazing!! Highly recommend. The only negative is that they let way too many people in at the same time and it's ridiculously crowded with very long lines
I thought I was able to get a book with my ticket but unsure what to do. Couldn't find any information about it in the store. Lots of people lined up buying books. I loved the staircase
It was great to get to visit the bookshop I had heard so much about. Beautiful architecture. Easy to see the familiarity to Harry Potter books. It wasn't too crowded when we went and we didn't have to wait in line at all with our gold tickets.
Too hyped up and the the gold ticket certainly not worth the money - no one needs to spend that kind of money to get into this bookstore-thats all I have to say about it. Would not recommend it to my friends.
The venue was too crowded. I had difficulty to walk etc
Getting tix ahead of time so no line
Easy to navigate the website to purchase the tickets, had gold so the staff looked after us.
Beautiful location but too crowded
Music and food was very good. Had excellent seating if I was local would make this place my new hangout.
Beautiful spot but very crowded. Too long a queue to buy anything.

It is a very attractive bookshop with a really quirky staircase. However, it was not one where you could easily browse books due to the crowds and narrowness of the shop in places. I did buy two books but thought they were quite expensive. I did not stay for the full allotted time as it wasn't quite the browsing in a bookstore I'd anticipated.
It was disappointing that we could not combine our ticket credit to buy a book as we could only use one per book and the book prices were much higher.
Very easy to buy tickets and subsequent info about the purchase and reminder about the event 🤗. The bookstore a good experience despite many people. Time to buy books and no "stress" at the checkout. Staff took the time to help people.

This dreamy, curved red staircase is one of the most photographed in the world, once you see it, you’ll know why. Its flowing design and bold color make you feel like you’ve stepped into a magical world. While it’s often linked to Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling has said it wasn’t her inspiration, but that doesn’t stop fans from falling in love with it.
Perfect for: General visitors or casual readers.
Perfect for: Collectors or those seeking a souvenir with cultural depth.
Livraria Lello is open every day from 9:30am to 7pm
Address: R. das Carmelitas 144, 4050-161 Porto, Portugal
Before entering, take a moment to admire the gorgeous Neo-Gothic facade of the bookstore. The detailed carvings and the frescoes are designed to look like a grand chapel, celebrating art and science. Built by engineer Francisco Xavier Esteves, it mixes Gothic and Art Nouveau styles, giving the building a timeless beauty.
Not officially, but it’s said to have inspired J.K. Rowling when she lived in Porto! The magical staircase and gothic vibes feel straight out of Hogwarts.
Yes! You’ll find books in multiple languages, including Portuguese, English, French, and Spanish. Some are stunning collector’s editions you won’t find anywhere else.
Yes! Children are welcome. Entry is free for kids under 3 years old, and there’s even a magical Little Prince room that young readers will love.
There’s no strict time limit, so take your time! Most people spend around 30–45 minutes exploring and taking photos.
Partially. The ground floor is accessible, but due to the historic design, the upper floor and famous staircase can be tricky. Staff are helpful and can assist where possible.
Yes! You can take photos, but no tripods or drones. The red staircase is a selfie hotspot, so get your camera ready.
Not with the basic entry. But the Silver Voucher gives you a book discount, and the Gold Voucher includes a stunning special edition book you can keep.
Totally! Even if you’re not a bookworm, the staircase, stained glass ceiling, and historic vibe make it one of the most beautiful places in Porto.
